I downloaded Google Chrome and surveyed just about every web topic about connectivity issues. I have not been able to connect to the internet through Chrome still. I've disabled my firewall, checked the auto-detect box in the proxies section, and am not even running an antivirus system at the moment. I have no problem with FireFox, IE, or any other application that uses the internet.
I'm running Windows XP Home and connect to the internet via wireless LAN connection. Update:
Update: Toni (the Googler) was right! The explanation to my problem was indeed malware. This little guy has been a real pain. I can't list all the characteristics of it, but some of them include:
1) Redirecting search result links to spam pages
2) Removing access to antivirus websites
3) Not even letting me open the Chrome installer, let alone access the internet with it (I had to get a little crafty).
To fix this, I had to download a program called Malwarebytes. The obstacle in that was getting my hands on the software, for the website was blocked by the virus. If you have this virus, to download Malwarebytes you have to download it on an uninfected computer, than transfer the file via flash drive to the infected computer. But don't get excited yet, because chances are the virus won't even let you open the file. All you have to do however, is find the application's file (the name should have .exe in it) in My Computer and rename it. Once you have it open and running, quick scan your computer, remove the infected files, and reboot!
Malwarebytes is a handy application which has saved my tail more than once. Here's the link:
